The Tata Gravitas, it is nothing but a 7-seater iteration based on the Tata Harrier and it was showcased to us as the Buzzard concept earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. This 7-seater SUV is now inching closer to a market debut and will be a full size SUV which will technically have no rivals. The likes of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson are 5-seater models, and this Tata Gravitas will fall in the same price bracket.
The recent spyshots seen in this article are of the Gravitas, but the car seen here is being reported to be the model heading out for crash tests. The big 7-seater SUV was seen sporting a matte orange shade ditching all camouflage covers and revealing the complete final body structure which looks very much like the Buzzard concept which should please buyers. The interesting and distinct design bits for the Gravitas would be the rear section of the SUV which is taller than the Harrier and seems to take design inspiration from the Land Rover Discovery. You will get a unique D pillar with a rear 3rd row quarter glass, sharkfin antenna, rear spoiler, flatter tail gate but filled with crease lines, gloss black applique, skid plates, etc.
In the concept images below, you can see the seating layout for the Tata Gravitas.
Right from launch, the Gravitas will come with a BS6 compliant diesel engine. This is expected to be sourced from the Jeep Compass Trailhawk, albeit in a different state of tune should Tata decide so. The Gravitas SUV is also expected to benefit with an automatic gearbox, a feature which many Harrier customers have also been asking for.
The Tata Gravitas, compared to the Harrier could demand around INR 1 lakh more, for the extra rear estate on offer. Will it be justified, we will have to wait for the launch to get more juice on this…
