Tata Motors showcased the 7-seater iteration of the Tata Harrier, codenamed Gravitas at the 15th edition of the Auto expo 2020. The Tata Gravitas was slated to make its debut in sometime before September 2020, but due to the COVID-induced lockdown from the end of March until recently. The dates are likely to be pushed further away. Though the brand has not officially announced the dates for the launch, a media report suggests that Tata could be planning to introduce the Gravitas in the Indian market by the last quarter of this fiscal.
On the outside, the Tata Gravitas appears similar to the Tata Harrier and is based on the same design philosophy but the rear haunch of the SUV has been extended to accommodate the extra row of seats. The tail section is also likely to be revised to give the larger SUV a differentiation factor. The roof on the Tata Gravitas also steps-up to enable more headroom for the rear row passengers. On the front end, the Gravitas appears similar to the Harrier and features a split headlamp with the LED daytime running light on the bonnet shutline and the headlamps placed lower on the bumper.
On the inside, the Gravitas is also likely to feature equipment from the brand’s current flagship the Tata Harrier which comes with a large 8.8-inch infotainment system in the centre, multilayered dashboard, wood-finished dashboard embellishment, steering mounted controls, analogue digital instrumentation, JBL speaker system, six-way powered street, rain-sensing wiper, glove box with laptop tray, utility spaces etc.
In the engine department, the Gravitas is speculated to come with BS6 emission-compliant 2.0-litre Kryotec four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as a 6-speed automatic transmission. The SUV will be based on the same OMEGA-ARC (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced – Architecture) which has been derived from the Land Rover’s D8 platform and the Gravitas is expected to come with a premium safety package such as all four disc brakes and electronic parking brakes.
