World’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp has become the first two-wheeler maker in the country to receive BSVI certification from the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT). The certification was approved for the Splendor iSmart motorcycle, which was designed by Hero MotoCorp at the company’s Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur Rajasthan. The prototype of the BSVI compliant motorcycle was sent for testing and approval to the Government approved agency, ICAT, which then certifies the vehicle and then the manufacturer can start producing the model. There are three such government-approved test agencies - ARAI, ICAT and GARC. The deadline for BSVI standards is set for 1st of April 2020 and Hero MotoCorp is all-ready to make its entry much ahead of the deadline, with the BSVI compliant Splendor iSmart. The Hero Splendor iSmart is a commuter segment motorcycle which features a halogen AHO headlamp, alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, split grab rail, body graphics, i3S technology, an analogue digital instruments display with side stand indicator, etc. The engine powering the Splendor iSmart is a BSVI compliant, 109.15cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke, OHC engine which produces 9.10 PS of power and 9.0 Nm of torque coupled to a 4-speed constant mesh gearbox. The chassis construction is a tubular double cradle and the bike rides on a telescopic front suspension and a twin 5-step adjustable hydraulic with coil springs on the rear. The brakes on the Splendor are 130mm internally expanding, mechanical drum brakes on both the front and rear equipped with an integrated braking system (IBS). The dimensions of the Splendor iSmart measure in at 2015mm in length, 770mm in width, 1055mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1245mm and a ground clearance of 165mm. The motorcycle weighs 116 kg (kerb) and can carry a payload of 130 kg. The fuel tank capacity on the motorcycle is 8.5-litres with a 2-litre reserve.
