American product delivery service company Amazon has announced its partnership with SUN Mobility to expand the deployment of EVs across the country. As one of India's leading providers of energy infrastructure, SUN Mobility intends to help Amazon expand the deployment of EVs. Thanks to SUN Mobility's integrated battery swapping technology, Amazon India can carry out its transportation and logistics services. These EVs will contribute to Amazon India's commitment to adding 10,000 electric vehicles to its India delivery fleet by 2025. Benefits of the Partnership Via this partnership Amazon India and its delivery service partners (DSPs) will leverage SUN Mobility's MaaS (mobility-as-a-service) offering in India. Therefore, the deployment will act as a state-of-the-art electric mobility solution with integrated smart batteries and access to the 'SWAP POINTS' network. Currently, SUN Mobility is setting up its 'SWAP POINTS' across its customer locations, including Amazon warehouses in major cities. These include Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Hyderabad, where DSPs can swap their empty batteries for fully-charged ones. This helps to address issues such as range anxiety and the requirement of setting up a dedicated charging infrastructure. Not only do these points save space and cost but also bolster Amazon's efforts of implementing sustainable practices in its operations. The company is also actively focusing on contributing toward its Climate Pledge goals of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Overall, SUN Mobility has successfully deployed over 100 loaders powered by swappable batteries with Amazon India's DSPs in metro cities. Future Objectives SUN Mobility aims to onboard over a million vehicles by 2025, the accomplishment of which will occur through accelerated MaaS offerings. The company has already commenced the deployment of its solutions to e-commerce and goods delivery players across major cities. These include Delhi NCR, Bangalore, and Chandigarh, along with plans to further expand into other cities across the country. SUN Mobility also has onboarded hundreds of vehicles across multiple fleet operators and currently has a robust order to deploy thousands more.
