Suzuki Motorcycles is looking to bring the V-Strom 800DE to India soon. A test mule of this bike was recently spotted testing on Indian roads.
This is the first time that the motorcycle has been spotted testing in India. Neither is the bike made here, nor is it exported. This means that Suzuki plans to launch the same in our markets in the near future.
Back in November 2022, the V-Strom 800 DE was unveiled globally. The bike gets a new parallel twin engine and is positioned above the popular V-Strom 650XT.
In terms of usability, the 800DE is positioned as a off-road biased bike. In comparison, the smaller V-Strom 650XT is more of a tourer. It rides on 21-inch front wheels, gets spoke rims with tube tyres, and boasts of a 220 mm ground clearance with an equal 220 mm of suspension travel.
The kerb weight of the bike is 230 kg and the seat height is 855 mm. Suzuki has equipped the V-Strom 800DE with a 5-inch TFT, bi-directional quick shifter, multiple riding modes and dual modes for the switchable dual channel ABS.
The V-Strom 800 DE comes with a new 776cc parallel twin engine. This gets a 270 degree crankshaft that gives out a typical rumble to the exhaust. In terms of numbers, the engine is good for 84 HP and 78 Nm of torque.
Internationally, the V-Strom 800DE commands a premium price than the Triumph Tiger 850. However it sits below the Tiger 900 GT.
Suzuki has the V-Strom 650 XT on sale in India at a price of INR 8.55 lakh. This means the 800DE will be priced higher than this. While on one side motorcycling enthusiasts will be glad to have a new Suzuki bike in the line-up, it remains to be seen how many takers the company finds at this premium price.
