Suzuki to launch V-Strom 250 adventure tourer in India

Suzuki has just introduced an all-new 250cc engine in the Indian market with the Gixxer SF 250. This fully faired motorcycle engine will be shared with future motorcycles in the premium segment from the brand, and Suzuki has already moved focus to the premium end of motorcycles. The 250cc, oil-cooled motorcycle engine is quite unique in its systems for heat management.

Now, reports suggest that Suzuki is considering a small adventure tourer motorcycle for the Indian market. Almost every motorcycle manufacturer is trying their hands in the adventure touring segment, and Suzuki already has the V-Strom 250 on sale in markets abroad. Suzuki in India however will ditch the parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor on the international model and swap it with the single-cylinder sold in India.

Abroad, the Suzuki V-Strom 250 comes with a 248cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, SOHC motor producing 25 PS of power and 23.40 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. The Gixxer SF 250 in India is powered by a 249cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, oil-cooled motor producing 26.5 PS of power and 22.6 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox. So in terms of performance, the India-spec engine is actually competent enough.

The V-Strom 250 shares the design language with the bigger V-Strom adventure tourer motorcycles. Typical tourer motorcycle front beak style, pannier mounts, long contoured seats, clear front windscreen, longer travel suspension, front and rear disc brakes with ABS, digital instrument console, full size exhaust, engine bash plate and the likes…

This bike however is still in early stages of development. The launch is expected sometime in 2020-21 and will be built in India, but inputs coming in from Japan. The India-spec Suzuki V-Strom 250 is also expected to be lighter and easy to manage thanks to a less complex engine layout. When launched, it will rival the likes of Hero Xpulse 200, Royal Enfield Himalayan and the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure.
