Suzuki recalls V-Strom 800DE due to tyre defect

Written by News Team

Suzuki Motor Corporation has issued a safety recall for its new V-Strom 800DE adventure bike in the United States. The recall is related to a potential defect in the rear tyre that could compromise rider safety.

The Issue

According to the recall notice, certain 2023 and 2024 DL 800 DE (V-Strom 800) motorcycles may have been equipped with a rear tyre that can develop cracking or other deformations in the tread. In the worst-case scenario, portions of the tyre tread may separate from the tyre structure, impacting overall vehicle dynamics and increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected Vehicles

A total of 1,688 motorcycles manufactured between March 15, 2023, and November 20, 2023, are potentially affected. Suzuki has not yet identified the brand of tyres that may have this defect, but the V-Strom 800DE typically comes with at least one Dunlop tyre.

Safety Measures

While the cause of the issue is still under investigation, Suzuki plans to remedy the problem by replacing the existing rear tyre with a new one that contains the necessary countermeasure action. Owners can expect to have their tyres replaced free of charge at Suzuki dealerships once a solution is determined.

Affected Vehicles in India

The V-Strom 800DE comes as a CKD kit and is assembled in India. Since the parts are all imported from Japan, there is a possibility of them affected as well. Suzuki will reach out to customers who have a motorcycle with the affected tyre. Customers can take the bike to the nearest dealership and get the tyre replaced free of cost.
