Rumours are doing the rounds that Suzuki may be planning to manufacture the fourth-generation Jimny in India and Indonesia. Presently, the car is only produced at the Kosai factory in Japan and both Indian and Indonesian markets have a large fan following for SUVs and for Suzuki this could be a good opportunity to manufacture the cars in these countries and tap the market demand.
If the rumours turn out to be true and the Suzuki Jimny does come to the country, the brand will manufacture and export it to Africa and Middle-East from India and to the ASEAN markets through Indonesia. Both the countries produce the K15B engine which is used on the car. People in India love SUVs and if the Jimny is assembled locally or built here, the price of the vehicle may attract a lot of buyer’s in India.
The Suzuki Jimny features a halogen automatic headlamps, daytime running lights, high beam assists, 15-inch steel wheels, electrically adjustable ORVMs, manual air-conditioning, fabric upholstery, electric power windows, cruise control, 12V socket, etc. In terms of safety, the car gets ABS with brake assist, EBD, ESP, hill-hold control, hill descent control, driver and front passenger airbags, side airbags, curtain airbags, dual sensor brake support, 3-point seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, tyre pressure monitoring system, etc.
The vehicle measures in at 3645mm in length, 1645mm in width and 1725mm in height. The short front and rear overhangs allow the SUV to have a good approach and departure angle and the light weight gives the SUV good off-road capabilities.
The engine on the Jimny is a 660cc, turbocharged 3-cylinder gasoline motor and a 1.5-litre , 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 103 HP of power and 138 Nm of torque coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional automatic. The Jimny comes with a low-ratio gearbox and 4-Wheel-Drive.
Let’s hope the rumours turn out to be true and Suzuki does bring the Jimny to our shores. Afterall, the Gypsy is an old workhorse which isn’t available to civilians anymore. The Jimny would fill the void right?
