Suzuki Intruder 250 cruiser coming soon?

Last year it was speculated that Suzuki will be launching the Suzuki Intruder with a larger displacement 250cc engine and rumoured to be showcased at the 15th edition of the Auto Expo 2020. But as we all know that did not happen, and Suzuki at their pavilion showcased the BS6 version of the Intruder 155 that was launched a few months ago at INR 1.20 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.

Now, new patent drawings that were filed back in November 2018 have surfaced the internet leading us to believe that the Intruder 250 with the larger engine is under development and could be launched soon. The design patents are of the exhaust pipes of the cruiser motorcycle which appear to have a more rounded look with a twin tip configuration. The angular design of the Intruder 155 appears to have given way to the more conventional design.

In internally the exhaust system appears to have a single piece unit with two tips at the end but the gasses are likely to pass through a large catalytic converter inside the muffler. For BS6 conformity additional catalyser units may also be used. The external cover which has a sharp design on the Intruder 155 that is currently sold in the Indian market gets new rounded pipe-like housings.

The background art in the leaked designs is unmistakably the Suzuki Intruder and its silhouette appears to be similar to the 155cc model sold in the Indian market. The Suzuki Intruder 155 draws styling from the Intruder M1800 cruiser and features triangular halogen headlamp, angular tank cowling, straight ergonomic handlebars with stylised covers, ergonomic seats, a forward set rider’s triangle, fully digital instruments cluster, LED taillights, angular covers on twin-tipped exhaust pipes etc. The Suzuki 250 is expected to carry on the same styling features with minor features that distinguish it from the Intruder 155.

If Suzuki launches the Intruder 250 the bike is likely to borrow the powertrain from the Suzuki Gixxer 250 & Gixxer SF 250 which have been upgraded to BS6 standards. The Gixxer siblings are powered by a 249cc single-cylinder 4-stroke 4-valve SOHC fuel-injected engine with an innovative Suzuki oil cooling system (SOCS) and produce 26.5 Ps and 22.2 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed transmission. Suzuki is likely to tune the 250cc engine differently to suit the cruiser motorcycle by altering the power and torque delivery.

As of now, no substantial information that the motorcycle is under development and this could well be another rumour.
