Suzuki appears to be gearing up for another EV in India after the eVX. This is evident with the filing of a patent for the Suzuki eWX EV. This move has sparked considerable interest and speculation about the Japanese automaker’s plans to expand its EV portfolio.
The patent filing for the Suzuki eWX EV suggests that the company is in the advanced stages of developing this new electric vehicle. While specific details about the car’s design and specifications remain under wraps, the filing indicates that Suzuki is committed to enhancing its presence in the electric vehicle sector in India with multiple products
The patent has revealed that the eWX concept is only 3.4 meters long. This is lower than the Suzuki S-Presso that is already sold in India. It features a boxy, tall-boy design like the S-presso. Suzuki could be going for an entry-level small EV for the Indian market. Expected features include a high-capacity battery pack, offering substantial range on a single charge (possibly 200-230 km), and advanced safety and connectivity features to enhance the driving experience.
The patent does not show a finished, production-ready model. Suzuki might still be a while away from getting a finished product. So the product will hit the market only next year or early 2026.
Bringing a small mass market EV to India makes a lot of sense. The MG Comet EV and the Tata Tigor EV have been doing fairly well. Most buyers in India do not buy EVs as their main car. It is more often than not their second or third car. These are used occasionally for city drives. An addition to the segment will heat up the competition and will force other OEMs to keep prices competitive.
