Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki has just teased us with a launch date which is 20th of May 2019 and said that it will be the ‘most exciting launch of the year‘ which we believe could be the launch date of their upcoming motorcycle – the Gixxer 250. The launch of the Gixxer 250 is not confirmed and is still a rumour, but Suzuki has revealed the silhouette of the headlight of the motorcycle from the side. Going by the teaser image Suzuki might also launch a fully faired version before a naked street fighter.
The Suzuki Gixxer 250 could have the design cues largely from the GSX-R1000, GSX-S750 and the Houjue DR300. Houjue is Suzuki’s partner in China and the DR300 is already in production in China. The Suzuki Gixxer 250 could be heavily based on the same bike with a 250cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine producing around 25 BHP of power coupled to a 5-speed transmission.
There have been speculation doing the round for months, and Suzuki had also announced that they will be considering the premium motorcycle segment to fuel growth in the Indian market. In the recent past, Suzuki has been introducing big bikes in India, and this 250cc-300cc capacity motorcycle will bring incremental volumes as the market has evolved now.
In India, the current Suzuki Gixxer 160 is powered by an air-cooled, 154.9cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, 2- valve, SOHC engine that produces 14.8 PS of power @ 8000 RPM and 14 Nm of torque @ 6000 RPM powered by Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) technology mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The Suzuki Gixxer 160 comes with a chunky 41mm diameter telescopic front fork and a 7-step adjustable rear monoshock. The brakes are hydraulic disc brakes on both wheels equipped with single-channel ABS. The kerb weight of the Suzuki Gixxer 160 is 136 kg and the fuel tank capacity is 12-litres.
The Suzuki Gixxer 250 when launched in India will rival the Yamaha FZ 25 and the Fazer 25 and will be priced at around INR 1.3 – 1.5 lakh ex-showroom.
