Sony starts road testing of Vision S electric car, 0-100 kmph in 4.8 seconds

Last year on 7th January 2020, at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas Nevada, Sony introduced the new VISION-S 100% electric vehicle with revolutionary features such as intuitively operated panoramic screens, 360-degree Reality Audio in the speakers built into each seat, artificial intelligence, 5G, and cloud technologies. Now the brand is road-testing the VISION-S on public roads in Austria.

A mildly camouflaged VISION-S with registration plates leads us to believe that the EV is undergoing final validation testing and is likely to be launched soon. The brand has also officially provided a glimpse of what to expect in the future and also revealed the prototypes technical specifications.

The Vision-S is based on a newly designed EV platform that can be used for Coupes, Sedans, SUVs and MPVs. The Vision-S features compact and highly flexible powertrain layout coupled with the long-wheelbase and ultrathin battery pack boasts to provide the best in class space on the interiors of the car. The Vision-S features plush seating for four with Individual Seat Speaker. The car features Sony’s object-based spatial audio technology that provides immersive 360 Reality Audio just as intended by the artist.

The Sony Vision-S also features new technologies such as a series of panoramic screens that wraps the dashboard fascia and comes with an intuitive ergonomically designed UI that accounts for the driver’s line-of-sight, 10.1-inch rear-seat screens, remote play controls that allows the system to be connected from the Playstation at home via 5G, In-Cabin personalisation, advanced camera monitoring system, etc.

The Vision-S prototype is powered by two 200 kW electric motors one on each axle that enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 4.8 seconds. The two electric motors and the all-wheel drivetrain can also propel the Vision-S to a top speed of 240 kmph. The Sony Vision-S measures 4,895mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,450mm in height. The EV comes with a wheelbase of 3,000mm and a ground clearance of 120 mm~135 mm. The car also features 21-inch alloy wheels shod in 245/40 and 275/35 rear tyres and tips the scales at 2,350 kg.
