Smart card registration to be stopped?

Maharashtra state government has found out that the use of smart cards for registration is adding to a financial burden of up to Rs. 8 crore on the public funds with over two lakh cards being issued per month.

The state has now appealed to the high court to discontinue issuing smart cards and instead, use pre-printed paper RC documents. The companies making these cards charge Rs. 63 per card in Karnataka, but charge six times the amount in Maharashtra.

The state has already started to digitally store car owners data since December 1st and supplying paper RC documents won’t cause any problems in the future.

But do customers really want to get back to paper documents?
