Skoda India is set to introduce a new compact-SUV that will feature a shorter wheelbase than the Kushaq. This yet-to-be-named SUV is expected to be launched by March 2025.
Design and Dimensions
The new compact-SUV will be based on the familiar MQB A0 IN platform, similar to the Kushaq and Slavia. However, it will have a shorter wheelbase of 2,566mm, making it 85mm shorter than the Kushaq. The front and rear overhangs have also been reduced to ensure the vehicle falls under the sub-4m mark.
Spy shots reveal a slightly shorter rear door due to the reduced wheelbase. The rear quarter glass area also appears to be different from the Kushaq. Despite these changes, the new compact-SUV is expected to maintain the traditional Skoda design DNA31. It will feature a split headlamp setup and a butterfly grille.
Interior and Features
While the interior of the new compact-SUV has not been clearly sighted yet, it is expected to bear a close resemblance to the Kushaq’s. Skoda is likely to equip the upcoming SUV with more features than what’s currently offered in the Kushaq and Slavia. Features like a 360-degree camera and an Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite are expected to be part of the package.
Powertrain and Specs
The compact-SUV will be powered by Skoda’s 115 hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine will be paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Given that the new SUV will be lighter than the Kushaq, better performance and efficiency can be expected.
Market Competition
The new compact-SUV will compete with other vehicles in the segment such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet. Skoda is aware that the compact-SUV has to be competitively priced to attain its full potential, and it is expected to be priced between INR 9 lakh-14 lakh (ex-showroom).
