Skoda working on electric Octavia?

As per a recent media report, Skoda is said to be developing an all-electric version of its global best-seller, the Octavia. The report also states that the all-electric Octavia will join at least 4 new Skoda EVs in the lineup. An all-electric Octavia will likely go on sale around the end of this decade as the German brand rapidly bolsters its EV lineup.

Skoda’s All-Electric Octavia – What Can We Expect?

According to reports, the electric Skoda Octavia will likely arrive by the end of the decade. It will use an advanced version of Skoda’s 89 kWh battery. Thus, it could offer a range of more than 375 miles or 595 km. The electric Octavia will also likely get support for 200 kW fast charging. There’ll likely be a two-motor variant and a four-motor variant. The former will power the standard variants, while the latter could power the sportier vRS variants.

Kalus Zellmer, Skoda CEO, says the company is not ruling out the possibility of offering the electric Octavia alongside the ICE and hybrid versions. The simple reason for this is the Octavia’s popularity and its huge customer base. Thus, Skoda will keep the Octavia brand as long as it can.

Reports also state that in such a case, the Octavia will continue to use the current platform for its ICE and hybrid versions. However, the electric Octavia would adopt Volkswagen Group’s SSP architecture, which will arrive in 2025.

Skoda’s Future Lineup

Skoda’s future lineup will consist of a whole lot of EVs. When the all-electric Octavia arrives, it will join a 7-seater SUV (based on the Vision 7S Concept), a crossover, an urban EV and a mini-SUV (Fabia replacement).

These are all the models that we currently know will be a part of Skoda’s new electric-focused lineup. By 2030, Skoda aims to have 70 per cent of overall sales to come from EVs.
