Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has achieved a significant milestone by producing 500,000 engines at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. This accomplishment underscores the company’s commitment to localization and innovation, aligning with the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative. The engines cater to both domestic and international markets, reinforcing India’s role as a key manufacturing hub for the Volkswagen Group.
The Chakan facility, operational since 2014, produces advanced powertrains, including the 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI engines. These engines are known for their efficiency and compliance with stringent global emission norms. The 1.5-litre TSI engine features Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), which enhances fuel efficiency by deactivating two cylinders during low-load conditions. The 1.0-litre TSI engine incorporates advanced exhaust emission technology, further emphasizing the company’s focus on sustainable mobility.
The milestone highlights SAVWIPL’s emphasis on localization, with a high degree of domestic sourcing for its engines. This approach not only strengthens the Indian automotive supply chain but also ensures cost-effective production while maintaining global quality standards. The engines power a range of models across Skoda and Volkswagen’s portfolios, contributing to the company’s growth in both domestic and export markets.
The Chakan facility also prioritizes environmental responsibility, employing sustainable manufacturing practices and advanced technologies to reduce emissions and improve efficiency. This milestone reaffirms SAVWIPL’s position as a leader in the Indian automotive manufacturing landscape.
The 500,000-engine production milestone is a testament to Skoda-Volkswagen’s dedication to quality, innovation, and sustainability. It highlights India’s growing importance as a global manufacturing hub. With a focus on advanced technologies and localization, SAVWIPL is well-positioned to drive future growth in the automotive sector.
