Skoda Auto India has had a good year. In 2022, the carmaker sold 52,721 units, which had a year-on-year growth of 125 percent compared to the previous year.
Plans ahead for 2023
Thanks to the strong demand and positive market response, as well as the sales performance of 2022, Skoda has set itself a target of double-digit growth.
Apart from the sales figures, the Czech carmaker will also target growing the sales network not just in existing cities with the brand’s presence but as well as new cities with no Skoda presence so far.
To help achieve this, there are a slew of product launches, network expansion agendas and projecting an accelerated growth for the new year.
Success thanks to Skoda Kusaq and Slavia
Just a few months back, the Kushaq SUV secured a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP. This rating also made it the first car to secure 5-stars in both adult and child tests under the revised NCAP test procedures. Noteworthy, Skoda Kushaq is the first car under India 2.0 strategy of the Skoda-Volkswagen group.
The second product under the India 2.0 plan – Skoda Slavia sedan – also has been quite popular. Compared to 2021, the 2022 year was strong for the sedan as well. The Slavia too secured a 5-star rating in the crash tests just like Kushaq. It is perhaps the rare sedan that gets a healthy 179 mm of ground clearance.
Both the Kushaq and Slavia are based on the MQB-A0-IN platform developed in India for the developing markets.
Other Customer initiatives by Skoda
To help improve the image of Skoda in India, the carmaker is also working with a few customer centric initiatives. These include low maintenance and ownership costs – at times as low as Rs. 0.46 per km.
One more initiative has been to increase the customer-centric attitude of the dealership and aftersales staff by improving workshop efficiency, enhancing service quality, building compact workshops and expanding mobile service vans amongst others.
