Skoda India has announced its sales report for March 2022. With a total of 5,608 units sold for the given month, this is the carmaker’s highest-ever monthly sales. The previous high was recorded in June 2012, when Skoda had sold a total of 4,923 units. In terms of year-on-year sales, Skoda’s sales have increased by five folds when compared to the March 2021 figure.
Skoda’s 2.0 Indian plan is working perfectly for the carmaker. The recent launch of Slavia and Kushaq has propelled the sales trajectory to a new high. Despite the challenges faced due to Covid-19, the recovery has been quite smooth for the carmaker. For Q1 2022, Skoda Auto India has also been quite impressive. Starting from January 2022 to March 2022, the carmaker posted a total sales of 13,120 units. The figure for the same period last year stood at 3,016 units.
The localisation plan under this new initiative aims at creating India centric products. Both the recently launched Slavia and Kushaq resonate perfectly with Indian customers. Being a Skoda, the exterior profile is quite striking, which creates a positive impression at first glance. Furthermore, Skoda also offers multiple powertrain options, thus expanding the target audience. Other products like Octavia and Superb are also contributing to the sales significantly. As a part of this initiative, Skoda is also expanding its dealership network quite rapidly. To enhance the customer ownership experience, Skoda is offering a plethora of warranty and service packages. This ‘peace of mind’ campaign will provide the customers with a more hassle-free approach.
With sales reaching new highs, India is becoming one of the key markets for Skoda Auto. Recently the carmaker has confirmed that it will soon enter the compact SUV market in India. As per Skoda, the brand’s following product is a sub-four-metre car that will get the underpinnings of the MQB A0 IN platform. We expect the car to go into production by January 2025.
