Skoda has released retail sales number for the month of October 2022. In terms of numbers, the carmaker registered 4,173 cars and 3,389 dealers dispatches.
Compared to October 2021, the numbers have grown by 29 percent for retails and 11 percent for wholesales. 2022 is also the year of highest sales since the Skoda commenced operations in India. Skoda has sold 44,500 cars between January to October 2022 – its highest ever figure in any year.
Last month, Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) tested the Skoda Kushaq as per the new test norms. The car scored a full 5-star rating in both Adult and Child category making it the safest car on sale in India. Kushaq’s sibling, Volkswagen Taigun, too scored the same result.
As part of the India 2.0 project, Skoda will be leading the VW group activities in India. The Czech brand will not only lead the new product development projects in India but will also be responsible for developing a sustainable model campaign for both the VW Group brands. ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) manages the Indian region of the five Volkswagen Group brands – ŠKODA, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini.
All models designed and built in India will use VW Group’s MQB-A0 modular platform. This platform meets the new crash test norms. It will also allow for standard components, production processes and dimension to reduce cost and production time.
Skoda is also exporting made in India cars to overseas markets. Not just RHD models, but recently the carmaker started exports of Left hand drive (LHD) models of the Kushaq and Slavia. KUSHAQ is the third Made-in-India car SAVWIPL will export this year. The start of export also talks highly of the group’s endeavour to ‘Engineer cars in India to be Driven by the World’ initiative.
