Skoda India has posted its sales figure for December 2021. Furthermore, the company has also released its yearly sales report. Riding on the success of Kushaq, the carmaker has registered a triple-digit growth figure. For 2021, the company has sold 23,858 units, up from 10,387 units in 2020. This translates to a growth of almost 130 per cent. For December 2021, the sales figure stood at 3,234 units, as against 1,303 units for December 2020. This results in a growth of 148 per cent in terms of monthly volume.
Kushaq Selling In Good Numbers
With the rising demand for mid-size SUVs in the market, Skoda’s Kushaq is witnessing significant demand. Despite the current negative factors of Covid-19 and shortage in supply of semiconductor chips, Skoda has posted a triple-digit growth figure. Being the first product under the Volkswagen-Skoda Group’s India 2.0 project, Kushaq has lived up to the expectations.
Based on the localized MQB-A0-IN platform, Kushaq will pave the way for more new launches under this new vision. Already, we are waiting to see the Skoda Slavia on the Indian roads. The carmaker had unveiled the product back in November 2020. Reports suggest that Skoda will officially launch the product before the start of the next financial year.
What Can We Expect From Skoda Slavia?
It is interesting to see Skoda invest and launch a new product in the dying sedan segment. The influx of SUVs options in the current market has been a big blow to the sedan segment. Customers are more inclined to get an SUV with an inherent high ground clearance, which is very important given Indian road conditions. Moreover, SUVs also give the sense of a bigger car, when compared to their equivalent sedan counterpart.
But Skoda, as a brand, pretty much knows how to sell a sedan. And this is also evident from the fact that almost all sedans to date from Skoda have done well in the Indian market. Moreover, some of the Octavia and Rapid are still the benchmark in terms of driving pleasure. With Slavia as well, Skoda will look to replicate its success and revive the dying sedan segment in the country.
