Skoda Auto India recently introduced the much-anticipated mid-size premium sedan, the Skoda Slavia. The Skoda Slavia is positioned above the Skoda Rapid and below the Skoda Octavia in the Indian market. The Slavia is also the second vehicle to underpin the MQB-A0-IN platform, which debuted with the Skoda Kushaq. The Slavia sedan now competes with the Honda City 5th generation mid-size sedan in the Indian market that was launched last year. Skoda has not yet mentioned the price of the new Slavia sedan. But speculations are that the Slavia is likely to come with a starting price of INR 11 lakh to 12 lakh mark. The Honda City sedan, on the other hand, comes with a price tag starting at INR 11.26 lakh ex-showroom. The top-spec City ZX CVT Petrol automatic comes with a price tag of INR 14.91 lakh ex-showroom. While the Honda City diesel engine option starts at INR 12.76 lakh ex-showroom and goes up to INR 15.11 lakh ex-showroom.
Powering the Skoda Slavia will be the Volkswagen Group’s TSI family 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The engine will produce 115 PS of power. Skoda will also offer the Slavia with a higher-spec 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI turbo-petrol engine. This engine will come with an output of 150 PS of power and ACT (Active Cylinder Deactivation). Both engines feature a front-wheel-drive architecture and a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The 1.0-litre engine will come with a 6-speed automatic transmission as an option, while the 1.5-litre TSI gets a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox as an option.
On the other hand, the Honda City comes with a 1498cc, four-cylinder, i-VTEC, DOHC engine. The engine produces 121 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-step CVT automatic option. The diesel engine on the Honda City is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder i-DTEC engine. The engine produces 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The diesel motor comes with only a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The Skoda Slavia measures 4,541 mm in length, 1,752 mm in width, and 1,487 mm in height. The sedan features a wheelbase of 2,651 mm, offering spacious interiors thanks to the MQB-A0-IN platform. The 5th generation Honda City measures 4549mm in length, 1748mm in width, 1489mm in height. The Honda City comes with a wheelbase of 2600mm and a boot capacity of 506-litres.
The Skoda Slavia comes with features such as a 25.4-cm touchscreen infotainment system and 20.32-cm full digital cockpit instruments cluster. The ventilated front seats, USB-C charging, and other Simply Clever features include smartphone pockets, coat hook and ticket holder. Skoda also offers safety features on the Slavia such as traction control, ABS and EBD. The car also comes with an electronic differential lock, vehicle stability management, disc brake wiping, rain and light sensors. Slavia will also come with six airbags including optional front side airbags and head curtain airbags and a rigid body shell.
The Honda City comes with a digital + analogue speedometer cluster, AVN touchscreen infotainment screen, automatic climate control, and a 5-star safety rating at the ASEAN NCAP. The City also comes with 1st in Segment LaneWatch camera system, the world’s first i-SRS Airbag System with Quick Deployment Technologyultra high strength tensile steel plates in its frame, 6 airbag system, vehicle stability management, agile handling assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, automatic headlamps etc.
