Skoda’s mid-size sedan, the Slavia, has received its first hike since its launch in February 2022. The prices have gone up by up to INR 60,000. After the price hike, the entry-level base 1.0 TSI Active variant costs INR 10.99 lakh ex-showroom, INR 30,000 more than before. On the other hand, the top-of-the-line 1.5 TSI DCT Style variant now costs INR 18.39 lakh ex-showroom.
Skoda offers the Slavia in three variants – Active, Ambition and Style. Additionally, there are two engine options available – a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI engine. Both the engines come with a manual or an automatic gearbox.
The pricing of the Active and Ambition variants see an increase of INR 30,000. At the same time, the Style variants with the 1.0-litre TSI engine get a price bump of INR 40,000. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre TSI, which is only available in the Style variant, sees a price bump of INR 60,000.

Given the ongoing worldwide chip shortage, Skoda has also made changes to the equipment of the Slavia. The company will replace the 10-inch infotainment unit from the top-end models with a smaller 8-inch unit. The smaller unit does not get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The same change will also apply to the Skoda Kushaq. Skoda recently increased the prices of the Kushaq as well.
The Slavia competes with mid-size sedans like the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City. Moreover, it will also compete with its sibling, the Volkswagen Virtus, soon. With a 1.5-litre TSI engine and a DSG gearbox, the Slavia was one of the most expensive cars in the segment. Honda recently became the most expensive option with the launch of its City e:HEV. For reference, the City e:HEV costs INR 19.49 lakh. After the price hike, the top-end Slavia is INR 1.1 lakh less than the City e:HEV.
It remains to be seen how Volkswagen will price the upcoming Virtus. Will it take become the most expensive in the segment? Will the pricing be on par with the Slavia? Or will Volkswagen be able to undercut the Slavia’s pricing? Only time can tell. Fortunately, the wait won’t be long as the German carmaker will launch the Virtus on 9th June 2022.
