Skoda reveals the new Fabia hatchback prototype

Following the teaser of a hot hatchback, the Skoda Fabia has now made its debut in prototype form. The prototype of the Skoda Fabia completely covered in camouflage wraps gives us a glimpse of what to expect in the near future. Skoda also shares some vital information about the next-generation Fabia warming us up for the launch. The first Skoda Fabia made its debut back in 1999 and over time the brand has continuously upgraded the popular car and now in 2021 where the brand celebrates its 30 years of partnership with the Volkswagen Group as well as the 120-year-old rich heritage in motorsport the brand will be revealing the fourth-generation Fabia.

Design, Dimensions & Styling

Now in its fourth-generation, the Skoda Fabia has grown in size thanks to the MQB-A0 platform the fourth-generation model will become the first Skoda Fabia to use the underpinnings. The new Skoda Fabia measures 4,107mm in length, 1,780 mm in width, 1,460 mm in height, 2,564 mm of the wheelbase and offers 380-litres of boot space. Though the size of the car has increased, the brand has managed to keep the weight similar to the third-generation model. The camouflaged prototype of the fourth-generation Skoda Fabia reveals a larger butterfly grille when compared to the predecessor. The lower bumper also comes with active vanes to optimize thermodynamic and aerodynamic efficiency. The brand also claims that the new Fabia can cut through the air better than the predecessor with a coefficient of drag of just 0.28 compared to the 0.32 in the older model. The camouflaged prototype also reveals a new set of LED lights on the front and LED taillamps with a crystalline effect on the rear.

Powertrain

Skoda reveals that the Fabia will come with five efficient petrol engines from Volkswagen Group’s new EVO generation family that range from 65 PS to 150 PS of power and most of which offer a fuel efficiency of close to five litres per 100 km in the WLTP cycle. The fuel tank will also be larger at 50-litres instead of 40, offering a range of up to 950 km on a tank. The brand will also employ the 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 150 PS of power and comes with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
