Skoda Auto is making some big changes. The Czech brand recently unveiled the Vision 7S electric SUV concept. The new concept SUV from Skoda previews its upcoming Modern Solid design language. Apart from the electric SUV concept, Skoda Auto also unveiled its new logo, which its next generation of Skoda vehicles will use. In addition to the new logo, Skoda Auto will also be updating its corporate identity.
Skoda will continue to use the flying arrow logo for communication and digital purposes. However, it will use a 2D version of it instead the previous 3D design. Volkswagen, Skoda’s parent company, made a similar change in 2019. The new logo is simple and is designed to look better digitally.
There are a total of two versions of the new logo – a word only one and one with the flying arrow and Skoda lettering below it in a new font. According to the brand, it is an updated take on its classic emblem and wordmark. Skoda will use the emblem on wheels and on the inside.
However, Skoda will use the new logo, which consists only of the ‘Skoda’ lettering, on the bonnet of all future models. Additionally, the new logo does not include the caron (the accent above the S). Instead, Skoda modified it to introduce a break in the ‘S’. The new emblem will come in two different green shades – Emerald & Electric. Skoda says it represents ecology, sustainability and also electromobility.
Skoda says the new logo is the biggest change for the brand in almost 30 years. The sales and marketing manager, Martin Jahn, says the brand sees this as the perfect opportunity to make it fit for the decade of transformation.
The Vision 7S concept previews Skoda’s upcoming design language that it refers to as ‘Modern Solid’. The new design language is quite a departure from its current design language. The Modern Solid design language features various strong vertical elements, minimal cuts and creases and more curved surfaces.
Another new design element for Skoda cars will be the lack of a grille or frame. The brand says it did this to make the cars ready for the electric age, which does not need a large opening in the bonnet. Skoda calls this the Tech-Deck Face. Additionally, from what we can see in the Vision 7S, upcoming Skodas will get T-shaped headlights and taillights.
Apart from the grille, headlights and taillights, there are a lot of interesting features in the Vision 7S. Skoda built the bumpers and the wheel arch linings of the Vision 7S using recycled tyres. The Flashy Orange element in both the front and rear vertical slats is functional as well. Skoda says one can pull these out and use them as hooks.
On the inside, it is all about space and sustainability. For a cleaner look, the interior is devious of buttons, and it uses a large 14.6-inch touchscreen instead. The touchscreen is also rotatable. The driver or passenger can use it in either portrait or landscape orientation. Apart from the touchscreen, the centre console features three rotary controls and six quick access buttons.
Being a Skoda, it also offers plenty of ‘Simply Clever’ features. These include an integrated child seat, diffuse mode for the air vents, magnetic surfaces under the centre console for metal Skoda drinks bottles, integrated backpacks, two interior configurations and more.
The production version of Vision 7S will use VW Group’s modular MEB platform. Skoda says the Vision 7S uses an 89 kWh battery and is also capable of fast charging at 200 kW. The brand claims thanks to the large battery pack, the Vision 7S is able to deliver a range of up to 600 km on a single charge as per the WLTP cycle.
