At the end of the last calendar year, we reported the all-new 4th generation, Skoda Octavia which is slated to be launched later this year. The new Skoda Octavia not only gets completely redesigned exteriors but also new tech in the engine department. Now according to a media report, Skoda is also likely to bring the sportier iteration of the Octavia in the form of the Octavia RS iV.
The Skoda Octavia RS iV is likely to get a plug-in hybrid mill which will be a first in the brand’s RS portfolio. The plug-in hybrid motor not only increases the performance but also reduces fuel consumption and the car’s CO2 footprint. Powering the Octavia RS iV is likely to be a 1.4-litre TSi turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine with an 85 kW electric motor that produces a combined output of 245 Ps of power and 400 Nm of torque.
The plug-in electric powertrain is likely to come with a 13 kWh lithium-ion battery which provides a range of up to 60 km on the WLTP cycle. The powertrain is likely to make use of a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox to power the front wheels. In terms of performance, the Octavia RS iV will be capable of doing 0-100 kmph in 7.3 seconds and achieve a top speed of 225 kmph, in the Sport mode.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain will not only be offered exclusively on the flagship Octavia RS iV model but in its standard configuration the 1.4-litre TSi petrol unit with an 85 kW electric motor with the same 13 kW battery pack will be offered on the SE and SE L trims. The motor produces 205 Ps of power and 350 Nm of torque. The lower-end trims are also offered with mild-hybrid engines that have a 48-volt 0.6 kWh capacity lithium-ion battery pack. The mild-hybrid engines will come with a 1.0-litre TSi 3-cylinder unit producing 110 Ps of power and a 1.5-litre TSi 4-cylinder engine producing 150 Ps of power. The 48-Volt mild-hybrid system provides a 50 Nm boost on both the engines which makes them more efficient and can save up to 0.4-litres of fuel per 100 km.
We expect Skoda to launch the mark 4 Octavia in the Indian market around the festive season and it is expected to be priced around the INR 25 lakh mark. The brand on 1st of March opened its bookings for the Octavia RS 245 in India which will be a limited edition performance model and like the Octavia RS 245 we expect Skoda to launch the Octavia RS iV in the Indian market by the end of this year.
