Skoda Auto will be delaying the launch of the Skoda Octavia due to the rise of COVID-19 cases in India. The fourth-generation premium sedan was due to its market debut around the end of April. But as a socially responsible company, Skoda will be postponing the launch event until the current pandemic situation improves. Zac Hollis, Skoda Auto India’s Director – Sales, Service and Marketing announced the same via the Twitter account.
After the grand introduction of the Skoda Kushaq SUV, the company planned to launch the all-new Octavia in India. The all-new Octavia made its debut last year in the international market. The Octavia was scheduled for its market launch in India by the end of April followed by the deliveries in May. The brand was also planning to line up the Kushaq for its market launch in June 2021 followed by the launch of the MY2021 Kodiaq facelift. But due to the surge of COVID-19 cases throughout the country, the Czech brand has postponed its plans until further notice.
Powering the new Skoda Octavia is a 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine. The TSI family engine produces 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. Speculations are that higher-spec variants will also come with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 190 PS of power. It is highly unlikely that the brand will bring a diesel-powered variant of the Skoda Octavia to the Indian market.
The Skoda Octavia comes with features such as a new sleeker front fascia with a sharper hexagonal grille with double slats. The new grille and face feature sleek LED headlamps and LED DRLs along with a long bonnet. The rear end comes with a new design Skoda LED taillamps with C-shaped light signatures. On the inside, the premium sedan comes with a fully digital instruments cluster, a new generation touchscreen infotainment system and shift-by-wire. The car also comes with a plethora of active and passive safety features.
