Skoda has introduced the 4th generation, Octavia, in the international market. The Skoda Octavia now comes with three powertrain option a CNG natural gas option, a plug-in hybrid and now the brand has also revealed the mild hybrid version of the new Skoda Octavia. After the Skoda G-TEC designed to run on eco-friendly CNG (natural gas), the brand also unveiled the Octavia iV and Octavia RS iV. Now for the Skoda Octavia will also come with the e-TEC mild-hybrid range.
The iV, e-TEC and G-TEC make reference to the wide range of new alternative powertrain variants available for the new Skoda Octavia. The Skoda Octavia iV and RS iV feature a strong hybrid powertrain that can propel the car for up to 60 km, fully electric. But the e-TEC badging has been reserved for the brand’s mild-hybrid variants.
The Skoda Octavia e-TEC powertrain is electrified by a 48-V belt-driven starter motor and a 48-V lithium-ion battery and depending on the market the e-TEC is powered by the latest EVO-generation three-cylinder 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with efficient Miller combustion process that makes 110 PS of power, alternatively a 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder that makes 150 PS of power. Both engines are married to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The mild-hybrid powertrain comes with a 0.6 kWh battery located under the front passenger and is charged exclusively by brake energy recovery.
The mild-hybrid technology provides the engine with an electrical boost of up to 50 Nm on-demand and enables the Octavia e-TEC to coast with the engine completely disconnected. This not only reduces carbon dioxide emissions but also reduces fuel consumption by up to 0.4 l per 100 km.
The fourth-generation Skoda Octavia also comes with new assistance system that is making their Skoda debut. The brand has also made improvements on other systems as well. The Collision Avoidance Assist supports controlled evasive manoeuvres by actively amplifying the steering movement to prevent an imminent collision with a pedestrian, cyclist or another vehicle. Exit Warning lets the occupants know if another vehicle or a cyclist is approaching from behind when opening the car door.
Skoda Auto India is likely to launch the fourth-generation Octavia in the Indian market by early 2021. The new Skoda Octavia in India is expected to come with a 190 Hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Speculation also suggests that the Octavia in India is also likely to come with 150 Hp, 1.5-litre TSI engine, but it is unknown if the Czech brand will come with the e-TEC mild-hybrid technology.
