Skoda Auto India has achieved a significant milestone with its new compact-SUV, the Kylaq, scoring a full 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP) crash tests. This makes the Kylaq the first Skoda model to undergo Bharat NCAP testing and sets a new benchmark for safety in its segment.
The Kylaq secured 30.88 points out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 points out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP). The SUV demonstrated excellent performance in both frontal and side-impact tests, ensuring robust protection for both adult and child occupants. The Kylaq also received top marks in the side pole impact test and the recommended child seat assessment.
Equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Hold Control, Multi-Collision Braking, and ISOFIX child seat anchors, the Kylaq offers comprehensive safety features as standard across all variants. The vehicle complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection norms, further enhancing its safety credentials.
The Kylaq is built on the robust MQB-A0-IN platform and is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that delivers 115 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. It competes with other sub-4m SUVs like the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3X0, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet.
In terms of safety ratings, there are only two SUVs from the above that have scored 5-star safety ratings. However, the Skoda Kylaq has scored more points than the Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV 3X0 making it the safest sub-4m SUV in the market.
The 5-star safety rating for the Skoda Kylaq highlights the brand’s dedication to passenger safety and sets a new standard in the compact-SUV segment. With its advanced safety features and robust build, the Kylaq is poised to be a top choice for safety-conscious buyers. We will be driving the Kylaq soon, stay tuned for our detailed review.
