Skoda has discontinued the Rider Plus variant of the Rapid. Responding to a user on social media, Zac Hollis, Director – Sales and Marketing, Skoda India, has confirmed that the Rapid Rider Plus campaign has now ended. There’s some limited stock available in the network, and soon all the units will get phased out. The Rapid Rider was one of the most Value For Money offerings in the passenger segment. Priced at an attractive ex-showroom amount of INR 7.99 lakhs, the Rapid Rider Plus was easily the top-selling variant of the sedan. But, now Skoda has decided to kill this variant, which is sad news for all, especially the enthusiasts’ crowd.
The lower cost should give the impression that the car is bare-bones in terms of features. But, Skoda has equipped the Rapid Rider with a host of features that will take you by surprise. The top highlighting features include automatic AC with climate control, a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, rear AC vents, all four power windows, electrically adjustable side mirrors, adjustable front and rear headrests, rear defogger, remote central locking, adjustable steering wheel, and more. There was a long waiting period for this model as well, with some dealerships taking up to 4 months to deliver the product.
The main talking point is the thing under the hood. At just 7.99 lakh, customers could get the much talked about and powerful 1.0-litre TSI power unit. Add to that the well-mannered suspension setup and a stable chassis. This car had fun written all over its face. Previously Skoda used to offer a variant named ‘Rider’ that had a sticker price of INR 6.99 lakhs. And this was a much better offering. But given the overwhelming response, Skoda has discounted the ‘Rider’ trim long back.
