Škoda Auto India cars officially announced as E20 compliant

Škoda Auto India has achieved a significant milestone with its 1.0 TSI engine receiving the prestigious E20 compliance certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). This certification places Škoda among the select few original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to earn this recognition, highlighting their commitment to sustainability and efficiency.

A Step Towards Sustainability

The E20 certification denotes that the engine is compatible with fuel consisting of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol. This blend is known for its benefits in reducing emissions and promoting a circular economy by utilizing renewable sources such as corn, sugarcane, or biomass for ethanol production. The move is aligned with the Indian government’s mandate requiring all cars to be E20 compliant by April 1, 2025.

The Certified Engine

The 1.0 TSI engine, which powers the Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan, is now officially E20 compliant. This engine delivers 85 kW (115 PS) of power and 178 Nm of torque, and comes paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The E20-compliant version of this engine made its debut in the recently introduced Kushaq Onyx AT and will soon be a standard across all 1.0 TSI models produced at Škoda’s Chakan facility in Pune.

Future Prospects

Škoda Auto India is not stopping with the 1.0 TSI engine. The 1.5 TSI engine, also a part of the Kushaq and Slavia line-up, is currently undergoing testing for E20 compliance. The results are expected by Q4 2024, and Škoda is optimistic about achieving similar success. This initiative reflects Škoda’s proactive approach to meeting regulatory requirements well ahead of the deadline and its dedication to sustainability.

Conclusion

Škoda Auto India’s E20 certification for the 1.0 TSI engine is a noteworthy accomplishment, reinforcing the company’s position as a leader in automotive innovation and environmental responsibility. With the upcoming certification of the 1.5 TSI engine, Škoda is well on its way to fully aligning with the Indian government’s eco-friendly fuel regulations, ensuring a cleaner and more sustainable future for its customers and the environment.
