Skoda has released a new sketch of their flagship model, the Superb. The Skoda Superb will be offered in a Plug-In Hybrid variant which will be revealed later this month. Skoda plans to bring the new Superb to Indian soil but has not confirmed a launch date. We expect the facelift to arrive later in 2019 or by early 2020.
The Skoda Superb preview sketch shows a new front fascia design with the signature Skoda grille and reworked headlamp units which appears to be full LED units with LED daytime running lights. Lower on the bumper, a sleek LED fog lamp surrounded in chrome trim which runs the whole width of the front bumper giving it a rich appearance. On the rear, the brand name is speculated to be placed in letters instead of an emblem across the boot lid.
The interiors of the new Skoda Superb will be revised with a new advanced infotainment system which will integrate wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment system will also feature new mobile applications, increased personalisation features and over-the-air updates. The interiors will also feature new microfibre material elements and backlighting. The interior is expected to be more simple and ergonomic in design for reach and feel on the new Skoda Superb.
Though information about the engine department is scarce, Skoda Superb will be the first car to offer a Plug-In Hybrid in this segment. The engine is speculated to be shared with the Volkswagen Passat GTE which uses a 1.4 TSI petrol engine producing 218 HP of power and it is expected to do around 50 km in electric-only mode. While the engine is powerful, it only generates 39 g/km of carbon dioxide.
The new Skoda Superb is expected to be revealed later this month in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Skoda India does plan to launch the new Superb in India but we are still unclear as it is still not confirmed. If launched in India, the new Skoda Superb will compete with Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid and the Volkswagen Passat.
