Simple Energy has finally announced the launch date of its much-awaited One electric scooter. The EV maker will officially launch the scooter on May 23. The company has already showcased the scooter and announced a price. But there were no further announcements and hence there was a complete silence from the EV maker. In fact, at that time it did not even disclose the commencement of delivery dates for the One electric scooter. The delay from Simple was due to compliance issues with new battery safety regulations.
This was because there were numerous reports of electric scooters catching fire. And hence this prompted the government to take some strict actions. The aim was to put a halt to makers and sellers of re-badged Chinese electric scooters. Subsequently, the Automotive Industry Standards (AIS) amendment 3 was introduced by the Government of India. This new standard ensures better battery safety. Simple Energy mentioned that it will try hard towards the launch of the One electric scooter keeping in mind the new compliance norms. As it stands, Simple Energy claims that the One EV scooter is currently the only electric scooter to comply with the new norms.
We got a chance to experience the One electric scooter in July 2022. The sharp design, performance and handling were some of the key highlights of the scooter. One EV made an instant impact in the market, as everyone started talking about it. The scooter gets an 8.5kW motor that produces 72Nm. Its 4.8kWh lithium-ion battery capacity comes with a claimed range of 236 km. In fact, this is higher than any other scooter sold in India.
Talking of the features, the list is long for One. The previously showcased model had a slew of exciting features. This includes LED illumination, 2GB RAM, a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-enabled TFT console, and four riding modes – Eco, Ride, Dash, and Sonic.
