Should India get the Skoda Kodiaq vRS SUV?

Skoda recently unveiled the facelift Kodiaq in the international market. The brand has also confirmed that the facelifted Kodiaq will make it to the Indian market in Q3 of 2021. Now Skoda has also taken the covers off the Kodiaq vRS. The brand also announced that the performance-oriented variant would be available from July 2021 in the international market.

Powertrain

The most crucial bit of the Skoda Kodiaq vRS is its engine. The brand replaces the diesel motor with a powerful turbo-petrol engine that produces 245 PS of power. The predecessor produced around 240 PS of power, so it does not make much difference in the power output. But the 2.0-litre TSI ‘EVO’ family engine is 60 kgs lighter than the oil motor. The engine comes with a new-generation 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox which is also 5.2 kgs lighter than the predecessor. While performance data is not yet available, the SUV is likely to do a 0-100 kmph time in under 7 seconds. The SUV will also reach a top speed of 220 km/h.

Features

The Kodiaq vRS also comes with sharp bumpers and aero-optimised 20-inch alloy wheels. The SUV will also come with several drag-reducing elements and a spoiler at the back. On the inside, the Kodiaq vRS features a 10.25in virtual cockpit display as standard, a Canton sound system and a central infotainment system. Skoda will also offer the Crew Protect Assist safety assistance system with radar sensors at the rear.

Skoda Kodiaq facelift engine specifications

In the lesser Skoda Kodiaq, the brand offers a 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine. This powertrain makes 150 PS of power. Skoda will also offer a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 190 PS of power. The brand will offer a 2.0-litre TDI turbo-diesel engine with 150 PS and 200 PS of output in the international market. This engine is not likely to come to India.

Skoda Kodiaq India Launch

Skoda plans to launch the facelift Kodiaq after the Octavia and Kushaq, but the second wave of the COVID-19 has delayed the brand’s plans for the launch to a further date. As of now, it is unknown if the brand will bring the Kodiaq vRS to India.
