Mr. Guillaume Sicard, President of Nissan India Operations, has revealed that Nissan is in advanced stages of developing the Terrano SUV with an automatic transmission. Since the Renault-Nissan alliance doesn’t allow the Terrano to be out with a AWD out anytime before 2015, launching an automatic variant in the meanwhile seems like a good option.
Nissan mentioned that they are working hard on adding more value to their existing lineup and considering that the automatic transmissions are gaining popularity, the popular Terrano can probably cash in on it. There is no update as on which engine the automatic transmission will be available, petrol or diesel. It looks most likely that the Terrano will carry forward the Xtronic CVT from the Nissan Sunny’s petrol powerplant on the 1.5L motor which produces 104 PS on the Terrano.
There is no specific date which was revealed for the launch of the Terrano automatic, but we can expect in the next couple of months.
