Rs. 2 lakh crore worth of infrastructure projects this year

The government recently cleared off highway projects worth Rs. 1.5 lakh crore which were stuck due to regulatory hurdles. Now, the government plans to commence work on an additional Rs. 2 lakh crore worth of infrastructure projects for this year.

The government said it is easier to construct express highways, but difficult to get environmental clearance. The plans is to build 2 lakh km of roads under public-private-partnership (PPP), which also includes widening of 1 lakh km of highways.

The new infrastructure plan also includes adding 350 electronic toll plazas by December and refreshment facilities every 50 km. Government is also looking at boosting waterways as means of transportation of cargo and introduction of sea-planes with airport like premises on Ganga.

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has informed the government to improvise the old regulations and rules wherever needed.
