Royal Enfield has announced that the Interceptor 650 has set a new record at the annual Speed Week run at Lake Gairdner, South Australia. Interceptor 650 Twin broke the four-year-old class record by clocking 132.050 mph which is 212.514 kmph. The class in which the Mid Life Cycles’ Interceptor entered was M-F 650 for 650 cc motorcycles which run on unleaded fuel. This broke the last record set up in 2016 which clocked 119.961 mph.
The motorcycle custom-built by HRA Geelong and Hallam Cycle Works for Mid Life Cycles clocked 195.989 kmph and 198.917 kmph on the first day which set up an average speed of 197.452 kmph. Then on the second day, the team hit 207.530 kmph and 209.543 thus averaging at 208.523 kmph. The team decided to give it another try as they thought the best is yet to come and in the afternoon of the second day, the motorcycle hit 209.810 kmph and the return run happened the next day with stormy weather conditions yet the Interceptor 650 clocked 215.296 kmph with an average of 212.514 kmph thus setting up a new record.
Most of the parts of the motorcycle modified by Mid Life Cycle improve the performance to a great extend which includes, the engine, frame, cylinder head, crankshaft, valves, gearbox, throttle body, intake manifold, and conrods. The use of new piston helps in better delivery of power as they are more tolerant to a high temperature which improves their durability and efficiency. The other changes to the motorcycle include lighter alloy wheels, a longer swingarm, custom front, and rear sprockets, Ohlins suspension setup, and Pirelli Diablo Slicks both at the front and rear. Upon looking carefully, we see that the motorcycle does not even have the front disc nor any lighting setup which helps in the weight reduction to a great extent. Mid Life Cycle will also sell these performance mods to the customers who are looking to extract more power from their Interceptor 650.
