Royal Enfield fully transitions into BS6 by exhausting BS4 inventory across India

Royal Enfield has announced that the brand has fully transitioned into BS6 as all its dealerships have successfully sold all the BS4 inventory ahead of time as the stringent BS6 emission norm are ready to roll out from 1st April 2020. The brand has also announced that starting today (21st March 2020) Royal Enfield stores across the country will only retail BS6 compliant motorcycles.

The brand in January 2020 upgraded the Classic 350 to BS6 standards and was also equipped with a dual-channel ABS setup. Powering the Classic 350 is a 346cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, twin-spark, air-cooled with a 70mm x 90mm bore and stroke that delivers 19.1 Bhp of power @ 5250 RPM and 28 Nm of torque @ 4000 RPM matched to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox. While the torque output remains the same the power delivery has been slightly reduced from the earlier 19.8 Bhp. The fuel delivery on the motorcycle is through an electronic fuel injection system which replaces the 29mm constant vacuum carburettor.

In terms of styling, the Classic 350 remains the same at least visually and only a large piece of catalyst type exhaust gas after-treatment can be seen close to the exhaust headers. The motorcycle still features the timeless design with rounded headlamps, chrome bezel with a cap around the headlight unit, analogue instruments integrated headlight shroud, straight upright handlebar in chrome, teardrop fuel tank, split seats with spring on the front seat for extra cushioning, silver-finished engine block with polished cylinder head covers and side covers, rounded tail light unit and rounded turn indicators.

The mechanical hardware on the Royal Enfield Classic 350 also remains the same except for the addition of the dual-channel ABS system. The motorcycle features a single downtube chassis using the engine as a stressed member and rides on 35mm conventional telescopic front forks, twin 5 step adjustable gas-charged shock absorbers on the rear, 280mm front disc and 240mm rear disc equipped with a dual-channel ABS, as mentioned above. The BS6 Royal Enfield 350 dual-channel ABS comes with 19-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke-wire rims with the option of alloy wheels in the same size.

Royal Enfield has also upgraded the Himalayan to BS6 standard which is now powered by the new LS410 engine and the Royal Enfield 650 twins (Interceptor and Continental GT) to BS6 standards. The brand has also ended the production on the 500c UCE (Unit Construction Engine) that powered the Classic 500 and a commemorative limited edition ‘Classic 500 Tribute Black’ was launched in February 2020 through a limited time online sale.
