Royal Enfield ‘Constellation’ could be the name a new motorcycle

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Royal Enfield has filed patents for a new moniker – Constellation at the Indian Intellectual Property office. This leads us to believe that the brand is planning to launch a new motorcycle in India, which may also be sold in the international market. In the 1950s, the brand used the moniker on a 693cc twin-cylinder Royal Enfield motorcycle. Speculation is that the new Constellation could be based on the upcoming Royal Enfield Super Meteor motorcycle. The Super Meteor is likely to use the same Twin-Cylinder platform from the current Interceptor and Continental GT 650 motorcycles sold in the Indian and international markets.

Royal Enfield – Constellation

While no details of the motorcycle are currently available. Speculation is that Royal Enfield is planning to add at least two motorcycles in the 650 segments. One is likely to be the Super Meteor, while the other could be named Shotgun. Royal Enfield revealed the SG650 concept motorcycle at the 2021 EICMA in Milan, and later spy shots of a production-spec model were revealed through the internet. But we now believe that a third motorcycle could be under development.

Powertrain

Powering the Royal Enfield Constellation is likely to be the 648cc parallel-twin cylinder air/oil-cooled engine. The engine produces 47 BHP of power and 52 Nm of torque on the Interceptor650/Continental GT650. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle could come with upside down front forks, piggy-back gas-charged suspension and ergonomically designed seat and handlebars. Technical details are currently sparse, and more information is likely to come in the near future.

Currently, the brand is gearing up to produce the new Scram 411 in the Indian market. Royal Enfield will be launching the new Scrambler style motorcycle based on the Himalayan adventure motorcycle. Rumours also suggested that Royal Enfield is also working on a 650cc parallel-twin engine powered Himalayan, but the motorcycle does not appear to have been materialised yet.
