Bear 650 Vs. Scrambler 400X, is a battle of two capable scramblers. How do they stack up against each other? Let’s find out.
Royal Enfield launched its new scrambler, the Bear 650 on November 5, 2024. Royal Enfield Bear 650 is a new addition to the scrambler segment in India. The Indian market already had a scrambler of 398cc that is Triumph Scrambler 400 X. The Triumph Scrambler 400 X was launched on October 10, 2023 in India. The starting price of the RE’s Bear 650 is INR 3,39,000 ex-showroom. On the other hand, Triumph Scrambler 400 X comes in the starting price of INR 2,64,496 ex-showroom. A healthy comparison between these two bikes is needed to see what each of them brings to the table. Let’s divide this into three categories: Powertrain, dimensions and hardware front and features.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 has a 648 cc, parallel twin air cooled engine. Triumph Scrambler 400X has a 398 cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine. Bear 650’s engine produces 47 bhp of power and 56.5 Nm of torque whereas Triumph Scrambler 400 X produces 39.5 bhp of power and 37.5 Nm of torque. However, both engines have a 6 speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch. It also has a two into one exhaust system that has blacked out heat shields.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 has a seat height of 830 mm and kerb weight of 216 kg. Triumph Scrambler 400 X has a seat height of 835 mm and 185 kg of kerb weight. Bear 650 gives the ground clearance of 184 mm and Scrambler 400 X offers the ground clearance of 195 mm. This clearly shows that the triumph has a higher ground clearance and is lightweight compared to Royal Enfield Bear 650. However, Royal Enfield Bear 650 has a longer wheelbase of 1460 mm and fuel capacity of 13.7 litres. On the other hand, Scrambler 400 offers 1418 mm of wheelbase and 13 litres of fuel capacity.
Royal Enfield Bear 650 stands on a steel tubular double cradle frame. Triumph Scrambler 400 X stands on a tubular steel, hybrid spine/perimeter frame. When it comes to suspension, at rear it has a hydraulic shock absorber with 115 mm wheel travel and at front it has upside down forks with 130 mm wheel travel. Triumph Scrambler 400 X also has a USD front forks and at rear, a preloaded adjustable mono shock with 150 mm wheel travel at front and rear both.
When it comes to braking, the Bear 650 has disc brakes of 320 mm at front and 270 mm at rear. Whereas, the Triumph Scrambler has a 320 mm of front disc brake and 230 mm of rear disc brake. Both bikes have dual channel ABS. When it comes to wheels, Bear 650 has spoked wheels with MRF Nylorex tyres and the Scrambler 400 X have alloy wheels with MRF Zapper Kurve tyres.
Bear 650 has a TFT display that has bluetooth connectivity and google map navigation. On the other hand, Scrambler 400 X has a digi analogue screen that shows fuel gauge meter, gear position indication, a digital tachometer and trip status. USB charging port, LED lighting and ride by wire features are available in both bikes.
