Royal Enfield has brought in the new Lightning edition of the Interceptor 650. Alongside this, Royal Enfield has also brought in the Thunder edition of the Continental GT 650 for the international markets. These are essentially modified versions of the standard motorcycles which have been stacked up with factory accessories.
The add-ons for the Thunder edition of the Continental GT 650 are pretty much the same as the Interceptor 650. These accessories make the motorcycle slightly more inclined towards touring. But the riding position offered by its stock handlebar and footpegs adds to the sporty and committed. In Europe, the starting price of the motorcycle is set at EUR 6,659. This translates to INR 6.58 lakh in Indian currency. Now, in terms of engine, hardware, and mechanicals, the Lightning and Thunder editions are very much the same as their respective standard counterparts.
Powering both these motorcycles is a 648cc, parallel-twin, air/oil-cooled engine. The performance figure of this motorcycle reads as 47 BHP at 7,150rpm and 52Nm of peak torque at 5,250rpm. Six-speed gearbox along with an assist and slipper clutch takes care of the transmission duties.
Coming to the mechanicals, both motorcycles ride on 18-inch spoke wheels. The suspension setup consists of 41mm telescopic forks up front with 110mm of travel and dual springs with 88mm of travel at the rear. Braking hardware is 320mm and 240mm discs at the front and rear, respectively. Dual-channel ABS is a standard fitment for these motorcycles. The Interceptor gets a fuel tank of 13.7 litres. Meanwhile, the GT 650 equips a 12.5-litre tank.
As of now, the Lightning and Thunder editions of the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 are not on sale in India. But the ones interested can still equip their motorcycle with the same accessories from Royal Enfield’s official accessory catalogue.
