French automotive giant Renault has pulled the covers off its all-new Austral SUV for the global overseas markets. The all-New Austral is part of Renault’s ‘cars for living’ tradition that marks the next milestone for the C-segment. The automaker began this offensive by introducing the Arkana and the recently launched Megane E-TECH Electric for the current C-Segment. Renault states that it aims to set an industry benchmark for technology, clean energy, and services via ‘Nouvelle Vague’ philosophy.
2022 Renault Austral: Design Details
The all-new Austral merges together the hallmarks of various SUV models with Renault’s new ‘sensual tech’ design principles. The SUV sports a curvy, sensual silhouette with strong geometric lines and structural details like the rear taillights’ micro-optic technology. With diamond-shaped patterns on the LED headlamps and sharp LED DRLs, the Austral sports an exclusive Esprit Alpine version. This will get an exclusive Satin Shale Grey colour scheme that accentuates its athletic stance along with 7 standard colours. Top-spec trims of the 2022 Renault Austral will get bi-tone finish as standard with stylish 20-inch alloy wheels.
2022 Renault Austral: Technical Specs & Interior Features
Renault’s all-new Austral will rival the Ford Kuga and Toyota RAV4 in the overseas market that uses the third-gen CMF-CD platform. The automaker created this platform by collaborating with its Alliance partner Mitsubishi and Nissan that accommodate various electrified drivetrains. Renault will offer a choice of two full-hybrid systems on the Austral paired to a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
The hybrid-tuned engine will produce between 157 PS and 200 PS of power via the 12V electric motor. Meanwhile, this second 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine will produce between 140 PS and 160 PS in combination with the 48V battery. Renault has equipped the Austral with a torsion-beam rear suspension as standard, whereas top-spec trims get four-wheel steering and multi-link suspension. The Austral also features a turning circle of just 10.1-metres with a wide-reaching design overhaul that focuses on aerodynamics.
Within the interior, the Austral’s high-tech cockpit sports the large OpenR screen that showcases the 12.3-inch digital driver’s display. Additionally, the Austral also gets a 12-inch, touchscreen infotainment system and a new 9.3-inch Heads-Up Display on the windscreen. Depending on the trim, the interior of the all-new Austral incorporates real timber, leather, Alcantara, padded textiles, and form-fitted materials. Other highlights include lacquered soft-touch elements in Deep Glossy Black and Satin Chrome along with the ‘LIVING LIGHTS’ lighting system.
