French car manufacturer Renault has unveiled the new Renault Megane E-Tech in the International market. The new electric vehicle will become part of the latest electric ecosystem integrating state-of-the-art software and optimized connectivity. Renault has developed the Megane E-Tech’s OpenR display and OpenR Link multimedia system in collaboration with Google. The system helps the new Megane E-Tech seamlessly merge into the digital ecosystem of its user.
The Renault Megane E-Tech electric vehicle features an imposing front fascia with a multilayered apron. The EV features a blank grille with a large Renault logo. The lower bumper features a wide air dam with air intakes to cool the powertrain and brakes. Flanking the bumper are aero ducts that optimize air flow around the vehicle, improving range and efficiency. The gold finish arrow-shaped bumper elements also add to the aggressive stance of the car. The Megane E-Tech also features futuristic, sleek LED headlamp clusters and LED DRLs that extend into the bumper.
The Megane E-Tech comes with large 20-inch wheels and protective claddings on the wheel arches. The car also features a high beltline and flush-mounted door handles. Renault will offer the Megane E-Tech with six exterior colour options – Rafale Grey, Schist Grey, Midnight Blue, Flame Red, Diamond Black, and Glacier White. Customers can also choose from Schist Grey, Diamond Black, or Glacier White dual-tone options, enabling 30 possible combinations.
The Renault Megane E-Tech EV comes with a brand-new OpenR single-screen dashboard. The upside-down ‘L’ screen cluster features a digital instrument panel and central console multimedia screen. The screen is made of reinforced glass and boasts a pleasing touch, brightness and light reflectiveness. The OpenR screen comes with a 12.3-inch instruments screen and a 12-inch multimedia screen. The system features Android Automotive OS based on Android OS and comes with Google Assistant. The multilayered dashboard also comes with a row of toggle-style keys for the air conditioning controls and a wireless smartphone charging cradle.
The Renault Megane E-Tech has two powertrain options – a 96 kW (130 hp) electric motor that produces 250 Nm of torque. Another 160 kW (218 hp) motor producing 300 Nm of torque. This enables the electric car to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.4 seconds. The vehicle also features regenerative braking on demand. The electric motor draws power from the new 395kg battery optimized for the CMF-EV platform. Again there are two options – a 40 kWh with a range of 300 km and another 60 kWh with a range up to 470 km on the WLTP test cycle.
Renault has announced that the brand will produce the Megane E-Tech at the Douai factory. The electric vehicle production plant is located in France in the heart of Renault ElectriCity. The strategic location of the production facility will help Renault become Europe’s largest and most competitive centre for electric vehicle production. The manufacturing facility is located in the north of France and boasts of being at the centre of the electric vehicle demand.
