Renault plans to launch Triber & Kiger EV in India by 2027

Renault is gearing up to launch its electric versions of the Triber and Kiger in India by 2027. The company aims to tap into the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. The Renault Kiger EV, internally known as Project RJ2K5, is designed for mass-market buyers and is expected to be priced below INR 15 lakh. The electric Triber, on the other hand, is aimed at families and fleet buyers.

What to Expect?

The Kiger EV will be built on a dedicated EV platform and is scheduled to go into production in the second half of 2026. Renault plans to source batteries locally to keep the price competitive. The company is also in discussions with Tata AutoComp for battery sourcing.

Market Impact

Renault’s move to introduce EVs comes at a time when the company is facing challenges in the Indian market. The company’s market share has fallen below 1 percent, and it is working to regain its foothold. Renault’s CEO, Luca de Meo, has acknowledged the difficulties but remains optimistic about the company’s future in India.

The launch of the Kiger EV and Triber EV is part of Renault’s broader strategy to revamp its product lineup. The company plans to introduce significant facelifts for its compact models, including the Kiger and Triber, before launching new mid-size SUVs like the Duster and Bigster in 2026. Renault is also investing INR 5,400 crore in collaboration with Nissan to develop new models for the Indian market.

Our Thoughts

Renault’s commitment to launching electric versions of the Triber and Kiger shows its dedication to the Indian market. The move towards EVs is a step in the right direction, considering the increasing demand for sustainable transportation. We look forward to seeing how these new models perform and contribute to Renault’s revival in India.
