German luxury sports car manufacturer Porsche has announced that its Taycan EV has broken the Guinness World Record for coast-to-coast charging. The test conducted in the United States of America highlighted the dream for Porsche enthusiasts traversing across the country. Wayne Gerdes, a multi-Guinness World Record holder, achieved yet another title for his collection by driving the Taycan EV. Overall, the Gerdes set a benchmark time of 7 hours, 10 minutes, and 1 second for travelling across the US.
Prior to the journey, Gerdes had to meet a set of daunting requirements, including noting down his every charging stop. Under the watchful eye of independent witnesses and invigilators, every moment of the journey involved filming, tracking, and accounting. Upon the fulfilment of these particular requirements, a certified panel of adjudicators accepted the official record by handing a certificate. For the record-breaking expedition, the team selected a standard 2021 Taycan with the Performance Battery Plus and Premium Package options.
Gerdes then began plotting his route across the United States by using Plug Share and the Electrify America App. Therefore, Gerdes started his 4,561.69 Km journey from Los Angeles, heading toward California and eventually reaching New York City. Gerdes ensured to keep himself comfortable in the Taycan EV thanks to Adaptive Cruise Control and Porsche Electric Sport Sound. Overall, the Porsche Taycan EV achieved a cumulative charging time of just 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 48 seconds.
Gerdes commented that among the various varieties of EVs he had driven, the Taycan managed to set the highest bar. He also stated the fact that Taycan charged from 6%-82% in 22 minutes using a 350 kW charger. Finally, he mentioned the fact that the Taycan EV displayed outstanding performance, comfort, and road manners whilst maintaining charging efficiency. Upon the end of the journey, Gerdes ensured to thank Porsche and Electrify America’s CCS DC fast-charging network.
The base Taycan EV with Porsche’s Performance Battery Plus option uses a 93.4 kWh battery to power the motor. Therefore, the standard Taycan EV produces 380 PS of power and 476 PS during Overboost with Launch Control. Meanwhile, the motor produces 345 Nm of torque during regular driving and 357 Nm whilst using Launch Control with Overboost. With a top speed of 230 km/h, the Taycan can accelerate from 0-100 kph in 5.4 seconds.
