Porsche has issued a recall for 40,421 units of the Taycan EVs globally. The reason for the recall is an issue with the wiring harness of the vehicle that gets damaged. The issue pertains to Taycans, which Porsche produced between 10th July 2019 and 18th May 2021. The brand has instructed owners of these Taycan models to visit their nearest Porsche dealerships to rectify the issue. Porsche India has confirmed that none of the Taycans sold in India is affected by this recall.
This won’t be the first time Porsche is recalling the Taycan. In July 2021, Porsche recalled 43,000 units of both the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo due to a software issue. The software glitch affected the powertrain of the EV. In 0.3 per cent of cases, the software glitch would cause the electric motor to shut down randomly. Because of this, Porsche also announced that it will ramp up its pre-production processes. This would make sure it does not affect its upcoming electric cars.
According to Porsche, the wiring harness gets damaged when adjusting the front seats. It could disable the seat belt pre-tensioners and airbags when making longitudinal adjustments to either the driver or passenger front seats. However, Porsche did not confirm which airbags are disarmed. Porsche has instructed dealerships to add textile fabric tape to resolve this issue. This will further secure the harness and help prevent potential damage to the harness while adjusting the seat.
Porsche India launched the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo in the country in November 2021. The Taycan comes in four variants – standard, 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. Meanwhile, the Taycan Cross Turismo comes in three variants. These are – 4S, Turbo & Turbo S. The pricing for the Taycan starts at INR 1.50 crore ex-showroom. At the same time, the starting price for the Taycan Cross Turismo is INR 1.70 crore ex-showroom.
Porsche India witnessed a strong demand for the all-electric Taycan in India. Furthermore, the Taycan was Porsche’s third best-seller in the first half of 2022 in India. The brand sold 37 units of the Taycan between January 2022 and June 2022.
