Porsche has announced the launch of 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Cayman GTS for the Indian market. The 718 Boxster GTS will retail at a sticker price of INR 1.49 Crore (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, Porsche has priced the 718 Cayman GTS at INR 1.46 crore (ex-showroom). In this article, we will briefly discuss the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS.
When compared to its non-GTS counterpart, the 718 Boxster GTS gets some subtle upgrades. The front bumper with dark contrasting inserts on the large air intakes and spoiler lip do add to the sporty character of the car. In the rear end also, the new bumper gets matching black elements like the front one. There’s enough number of ‘GTS 4.0’ badges to remind you of this particular exclusive trim.
Porsche 718 Boxster GTS gets a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six petrol engine. The performance figure for this engine stands at 400 HP and 420 Nm. Customers will have two gearbox options to choose from. The first is a 6-speed manual, and the second is Porsche’s PDK dual-clutch automatic unit. Interestingly, the peak torque rises from 420 Nm to 430 Nm with the PDK gearbox. In terms of performance, the 718 Boxster GTS can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in under 4.5 seconds. And the top speed is electronically limited to 293 kmph.
One interesting feature of this engine is its cylinder deactivation feature. This means that the engine can shut down half of its cylinders at low engine loads, thus enhancing the fuel economy. This is the first time that Porsche is using the flat-size machine for the GTS. Previously the GTS series got either a 2.5-litre four-cylinder flat four-unit or a 3.4-litre naturally aspirated flat-six unit.
To further enhance the drive experience, Porsche is using its Active Suspension Management system. This helps in lowering the ride height by 20mm when compared to the base trim of Boxster. Other key included equipment are torque vectoring system, upgraded brakes and a sport exhaust.
