Swedish luxury car manufacturer Volvo has launched the mild-hybrid petrol version of its flagship luxury SUV, the XC90, in India. Introduced right after the launch of its S90 and XC60 petrol mild-hybrids, Volvo has transitioned from diesel to petrol cars. The automaker has taken this decision in order to reduce its global carbon footprint, which includes reducing emissions. For prospective customers, Volvo offers a 3-year service package costing INR 75,000, including regular servicing and parts coverage.
With a price tag of INR 89,90,000 (ex-showroom), the new 7-seater SUV uses Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Volvo uses this advanced modular platform in all of its other models as it uses boron steel for maxim rigidity. This platform has enabled Volvo to produce some of its strongest modes to date, which offers enhanced occupant protection.
The current-generation XC90 retains its ‘Thor-Hammer’ shaped LED DRLs integrated within the LED headlamps along with a metallic front grille. At the rear, the SUV features distinctive LED taillamps along with new 20-inch alloy wheels. Volvo offers the XC90 SUV in 4 colour options- Crystal White Pearl, Onyx Black, Denim Blue, and Pine Grey.
Being a luxury 7-seater SUV, the XC90 features a comfort-focused cabin with large supportive seats and a large panoramic sunroof. Draped in Nappa leather, the seats offer enhanced bolstering and cushioning along with a smooth ride thanks to air suspension. To ensure a safe and healthy drive, Volvo offers the latest Advanced Air Cleaner technology, which measures PM 2.5.
The sensor aids in optimizing the air quality index inside the cabin to prevent air pollution effects and small particulates. The XC90 features a Heads-up display for the driver to monitor their speed, follow turn-by-turn navigation, and answer phone calls. Other details include a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a 9-inch portrait infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Powering the new XC90 is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 300 PS and 420 Nm. Paired to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission, the SUV features AWD, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Blind Spot Monitoring. Volvo offers the XC90 with other convenience features such as a 360-degree camera, Lane Keep Assist, and Collision Mitigation Warning. Along with Park Assist, the SUV also sports heated and massaging front seats with a Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system.
