The patents of the Italian premium brand Aprilia’s new middleweight model have leaked on the internet. The motorcycle in question is the Aprilia RS 660 which is expected to be unveiled in Milan at the EICMA 2019 in November. The bike is expected to be powered by a V-Twin motor with an engine displacement of 660cc.
The bike was unveiled in its concept form at the 2018 EICMA Motor Show and now the patents of the production-spec motorcycle have been leaked. The leaked patents reveal the design of the motorcycle and the styling on the production-spec Aprilia RS 660 is similar to the concept model with some fine-tuning. The headlights are likely to be LED units with conventional turn signal lamps. The bike gets a sleeker fairing design with a lot of sharp lines along its sides. The alloy wheels are expected to be in a ‘Y’ shape unlike the ones on the concept model. The rear seat appears very small and does not provide with ample space for a pillion rider, but the brand is likely to offer the Aprilia RS 660 with a pillion seat and foot pegs.
The mechanicals on the RS 660 is likely to be similar to the concept model and the bike will sport, upside-down fork on the front, a mono shock on twin sided swingarm on the rear, dual semi-floating hydraulically operated discs with radially mounted calipers on the front and a single disc with a hydraulic caliper on the rear. The bike is expected to come in two variants and the top-spec model is expected to get an Ohlins suspension unit while the base model will sport a Sachs unit. Both the variants are likely to get Brembo units but with different specifications.
The engine on the Aprilia RS 660 is expected to be powered by a 660cc, V-Twin engine derived from the Aprilia RSV4 1100, which is speculated to develop around 100 HP of power and the bike will come with an APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) electronics package, which will include ride-by-wire technology, riding modes, traction control, and a lot more. The concept model also featured the A3 (Aprilia Active Aerodynamics) on the fairing but if the concept feature will make it to the production model will only be revealed closer to its launch.
