Volvo Cars have announced that the brand will be offering all new Volvo car models with over-the-air (OTA) software update capability. Thanks to the OTA update capability, Volvo Cars will be able to improve the vehicle and customer experience constantly. The key technology is also in line with the brand’s initiative of making customers’ cars better and also bringing the company’s position as one of the industry leaders.
Volvo has revealed that the latest XC90, S60 and V60 models now come with OTA capability. The OTA technology on the new Volvo models follows the brand’s initial introduction of OTA updates on its electric vehicle line-up. This means that Volvo’s entire passenger car portfolio can now receive an update of the car’s complete operating system over the air. The latest OTA updates will bring feature improvements for the vehicle. These improvements range from better energy management through improved climate timers as well as updates to mobile app functionality. Thanks to OTA capability, the brand will also keep up to date on the in-car applications.
Volvo reveals that car owners will see their infotainment upgraded to a newer version of Android Automotive OS. This will feature Android 11, with the OTA update rolling out this week. Customers will also get access to new app categories on Google Play. These will include navigation, charging and parking. The new app categories will now be available on the infotainment system, along with video streaming expected to be added later in the year.
Volvo reveals that energy management improvements will help to maintain appropriate battery temperatures during both cold and warm days. This will help electric vehicles in boosting driving range and also improve the charging time. The company reveals that pre-heating of the battery will lower the charging time. The Volvo Cars app also receives more frequent updates from the car on the charging percentage.
The latest OTA update, which is the eighth complete car update, will reach more than 190,000 Volvo cars worldwide.
