Only 13% Maruti Suzuki Fronx buyers opt for turbo-petrol motor

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Maruti Suzuki Fronx was launched back in April 2023. The car is offered with a choice of two engine options – the regular 1.2-litre naturally aspirated motor and the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The latter was also offered with the Baleno but later discontinued. Now, Maruti has revealed that the customers choosing the Boosterjet engine is just 13 percent of the total Fronx buyers.

Increased demand for 1.2 K12 engine post price announcement

According to Maruti, before the price announcement, customers were split 55-45 percent in favour of the Boosterjet. However, once the prices were revealed, the demand changed to 13-87 percent for the K12 engine.

One of the reasons for this is the price difference between the K12 and the Bossterjet. Across the variants, the Boosterjet commands a premium of INR 1,00,000. This could also be one of the reasons for the customers opting for the tried and tested K12 motor.

At present, the company has over 20,000 bookings still pending delivery. Amongst these the majority of them are the K12 motor. Variant-wise, the most popular option is the 1.2-litre Delta Plus.

For customers preferring an automatic gearbox the 1.2-litre + AMT is a much more attractively priced option than the 1.0-boosterjet + AT combo. For instance, the former is priced at INR 8.88-9.28 lakh while the latter will cost buyers INR 12.06-12.98 lakh. All prices ex-showroom.
